CHILI CONTEST NUMBER FIVE….COME AND KEEP OUR FIRE ALIVE!!
Attention Tex- Mex lovers and habanera pepper cravers. If the term “HOT STUFF” automatically refers to anything you cook, then the 5th annual Riverfront Chili Contest is made to order. This year the scheduled event will take place on the banks of the Hudson River on October 8th at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park.
The best recipe will win the 1st prize of $500.00. 2nd place will take home $300.00 and last but never least will receive $150.00. PLUS the coveted $100.00 prize for BEST DECORATED TABLE.
Entry Forms and Rules can be found at www.hudsonvalleybounty.com. A five gallon barrel of chili is the amount requested and required…that’s about 2 crock pots full. Sterno, disposable chafing dishes with water pans and spoons, cups, napkins and a red paper tablecloth will be supplied. Each contestant should bring their own serving ladle.
The public is doing the judging which will begin at high noon and for those that want to be certain their favorite chili is picked….must do so by 3:30. Chili will be tasted until 4:00 but the judging stops at 3:30 so the bean counters have time to count the bean.
Each person stopping by to taste will receive a bean when they pay their $5.00 entrance fee. After sampling their favorite chili they will deposit a bean in the mason jar at the front of the table of each chili contestant.
This year in addition to the famous chili contest, the Arts Walk, the Council of the Arts biggest annual event will be side by side next to the Chili Contest tent. And the oldest barge on the Hudson River will give you the opportunity to walk off some of that chili. Or take a cruise to visit the Lighthouse.
OR a table nearby to sit and relax and listen to the fabulous sound of the popular band, Thunder Ridge. Just the right music to enjoy with that favorite chili!
This event is produced by Hudson Valley Bounty and sponsored by Ginsberg’s Food Service Distribution Company. Locally known as Ginsberg’s Foods. Mid Hudson Cable and Hudson-Catskill Newspapers.
Whether you cook the bean or carry the bean, we hope you join us.
