A scholarship is available for students who want to pursue a career in agriculture. The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce has allocated a portion of the proceeds from the Annual Black Dirt Feast for two scholarships to be awarded each year in the amount of $1,000 each, for students pursuing careers associated with agricultural study or the culinary arts/hospitality. ''Applicants must be a resident of the Town of Warwick, New York, and be a graduating senior, in good academic standing, who will graduate in June, 2012,'' according to Chamber President, Marlene Caraballo. ''These scholarships are all about character and community,'' she continued, ''since the students must also demonstrate a commitment to and involvement in community volunteer service or community work experience.'' To be eligible for these scholarships applicants must have achieved a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and submit an essay of not more than 1,000 words that addresses the statement, ''In looking toward the future, describe how you would define a successful individual.''
