The contest takes place on Saturday, October 6th from noon until 4 p.m. (judging ends at 3:30) and includes prize money totaling over $1,000.00. Best chili will receive $500.00, second place gets $300.00 and third place takes home $ 150.00. An additional $100.00 will be awarded for the Best Table Decoration.

For an admission of $5.00 (kids under 5 are free), each individual is given a coveted dry bean. Once in the tent, patrons are free to taste as many of the chilies as they wish in order to determine which is their favorite. Then they vote with their bean by dropping it into a mason jar on the table of their first choice. At 3:30, the official bean counters do their stuff. The prize winners are those with the most dried beans in their jar when the judging is over.

Secret recipes abound—from the Churchtown Fire Company’s chili with liquid smoke, the Pirate Pig’s Boar’s Head Bacon, to the Chef’s Consortium’s Beef Turkey and Shitaki. Restaurants will be participating as well. American Glory is entering it’s famous chili, as is Wunderbar Bistro, Johnny’s BBQ Shack and newcomer, The Crimson Sparrow. Red Dot is back for a repeat performance as is last year’s winner looking to hold onto his crown, Joe Morabito of Morabito’s Deli and Sub Shop.
